Our bus rules,
our safe ride

Kia ora! Every trip works best when we all look after each other. Here are the simple things we need to do on the bus.

1

Listen to your driver

Your driver has a big job: getting everyone to school and home safely. Do what they ask.

2

Buckle up, stay seated

Find a seat, put your seatbelt on if there is one, and stay in your seat until the bus has fully stopped.

3

Keep everything inside

Hands, heads and belongings stay inside the windows. The world outside goes by fast.

4

Use your quiet voice

Chat gently with your friends. Loud noise makes it hard for the driver to focus on the road.

5

Be kind to everyone

Treat other riders and your driver with respect. If someone is being hurt or unkind, tell the driver or a teacher.

6

Phones stay private

No photos or videos of other people on the bus. Everyone deserves their privacy.

7

Snacks can wait

No eating or drinking on the bus. Save it for when you arrive so the bus stays clean and safe.

8

Keep the aisle clear

Keep your bag on your lap or under your seat so the aisle stays clear.

9

Stay calm, know your exits

In an emergency, stay calm, listen to your driver, and remember where the exit doors are.

10

See something? Say something

If something looks unsafe, tell the driver once the bus has stopped, or tell a teacher.

Safe at school, and home again. Ka pai!

What happens if we forget

Most days, following these rules is easy and the ride is great. If they get forgotten, your driver, your school and your whānau will talk about what would help. That might be:

A seat chosen just for you
A short break from the bus
A longer break from the bus
Losing your bus seat
These are not in order, and they do not all happen. If something is really unsafe, the last one can happen straight away.
For parents and whānau

There is a longer version of this for grown-ups. It explains what happens if the driver is distracted, what the consequences can be, and how families can help at home.
